This Sunday, STRETCH your drawing skills with Bethan Kannapell, an Acrobatic Contortionist and circus production director !


Bethan has performed and directed circus productions around the country and is a member of the Circus Performance Group at Warren Wilson College. She recently directed her own circus production with 35 performers about a journey across the world told through folklore. See one of her recent performances here:

2010 Proof on Main Show

Work from numerous artist attendees from the past several months of Cabaret Life Drawing is now on display at Proof on Main, the bar section of 21c's restaurant. These are mounted informally, akin to salon style, displayed in four groupings on the walls around the Seventh Street side seating area and entrance from Main Street.

Artists please email me and I will include your names if you want credit for your work appearing in the show and on this blog.

Thanks to 21c and Skylar for hosting the Cabaret Life Drawing  and for giving us all a venue to display the art from those sessions! Here are some more photos of the show.

2010/07/25 - Actor and Art Model

Update: Here are some photos and some artwork from last Sunday.
Mathew brought only a few props: rope and rifle, along with a minimal costume: hat, bandanna, and vest - but really pulled off the cowboy attitude!

This Sunday, Saddle-Up and Giddy-Up your drawing practice with Model and Performer, 'Matthew'!

Matthew is a favorite life drawing model for many artists in the Louisville area. He has regularly modeled for life drawing classes at the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, I.U. Southeast, the Jewish Community Center, the Kentucky Watercolor Society and for many private artists and groups. He previously modeled extensively for the Louisville Visual Art Association at the now-defunct Artopia facility and at the water tower, and he has also appeared as a model at Jefferson Community College. Matthew studied theater at I.U. Southeast, and continues to perform on stage whenever possible. He most recently appeared as Dexter Jackson in "Two Beers and a Hook Shot" at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

2010/07/18 - Belly Dancer and Burlesque Performer

This Sunday, VaaaVaaa-Vooom your drawing practice with Burlesque Performer, Olivia Koltz!


Olivia has Ballet training from the UofL Dance School and began Contra dancing at the Advent Church in Louisville. In 2004 she started belly dancing under the instruction of Taletha, a prominent belly dancer of Kenuckiana. Most of Olivia's dance repertoire is with the Louisville belly dance troupe Asrar Al Badre, where she performs American Cabaret, Egyptian and Gothic style belly dance with the troupe and as a soloist. She was recently introduced to Burlesque dancing and was part of Va Va Voyeur A Burlesque Show, a recent performance at the Alley Theater in Louisville.

Last week's Cabaret Life Drawing was a special treat! Scarlett St. Claire made dirty politics sparkle with her statement on the Oil Spill in the Gulf!  See previous week's post for update with attached photos.

This Sunday, Derek Rake, aka Scarlett St. Claire, will model and perform for your drawing pleasure.

Derek is a multi-media artist and performer. His artists repertoire includes costuming, set design, installation, performance, and video art. This Sunday's concept will reflect America's obsession with oil, and a political commentary on the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. Artists are encouraged to bring their cameras along with their pencils! Bring colored dry-media, such as pencil or pastel if you like...there will be a lot of red, white, blue...and black.

2010/06/27 - Bluegrass Gypsy

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing welcomes The Bluegrass Gypsy, a local artist and personality!

" The return of Quetzelcoatl to Mexico in pink.... Flying to Mexico incognito as Rebecca...customs had to check my bags...pink plastic blooming out as the case was unzipped(an unruly bird) Custom official...?????... Rebecca ...Big Bird's cousin...a costume... Custom official,smiles ...O.K. Dress by Zephra Mae Miller. She said"I have the gift" and crotcheted it from"This Little Piggy " ( a popular children's shoe store in my neighborhood) pink plastic bags and my blue shower curtain(blue for the delta of the river Goddess and the Great steam boat race and the ever present memory of The Nile).... None of those little piggies had swine flu. The dress was designed for Mary Lou Whitney's celebrated Derby Party and can be seen in archived episodes of "Life Styles of the Rich and Famous with Robin Leach" documenting the Derby Eve before Seth Hancock's horse "Sunday Silence" won the Kentucky Derby..."Come Sunday, oh, come Sunday, that's the day" Duke Ellington"

Louisville Slim is a word nerd with pinup dreams! She adores vintage trucks, rockabilly music and has an unholy love of all things Converse. She also reads hot rod magazines, but just for the pictures.
