This Sunday, multi-faceted dancer, Olivia Klotz will model for your drawing pleasure!

Olivia has Ballet training from the UofL Dance School and began Contra dancing at the Advent Church in Louisville. In 2004 she started belly dancing under the instruction of Taletha, a prominent belly dancer of Kenuckiana. Most of Olivia's dance repertoire is with the Louisville belly dance troupe Asrar Al Badre, where she performs American Cabaret, Egyptian and Gothic style belly dance with the troupe and as a soloist. Olivia is currently a member of Va Va Vixens, a local Burlesque Troupe.

Envious and jealous of the beauty of a mortal girl named Psyche, Venus asks her son Cupid to use his golden arrows while Psyche sleeps, so that when she awakens, Venus would have already placed a vile creature for her to fall in love with. Cupid finally agrees to her commands after a long (and failed) debate. As he flies to Psyche's room at night, he turns himself invisible so no one can see him fly in through her window. He takes pity on her, for she was born too beautiful for her own safety. As he slowly approaches, careful not to make a sound, he readies one of his golden arrows. He leans over Psyche while she is asleep and before he can scratch her shoulder with the arrow, she awakens, startling him, for she looks right into his eyes, despite his invisibility. This causes him to scratch himself with his arrow, falling deeply in love with her....

This Sunday burlesque dancer and aerial performer, Miss Gypsy Love will model for your drawing pleasure!

Born bright-eyed and attention-starved, Miss Gypsy first began to satisfy her hunger for "oohs" and "ahs" when she discovered fire performing in 2007. The spark within her began to grow and she has singed many enthralled audiencesthroughout the city with the "hotness" of her fire and hula hoop acts. Her adventures and constant desire to improve her ability to amaze have spread her blaze to absorb a few new tricks, including aerial performance. There's no hope of surviving this wildfire of a performer...she continues to consume her audience, setting them ablaze with their own hunger for more.

Recently, you may have seen him cruising the world on Holland America's "Eurodam" cruise ship as a singer. In the past few years Michael has been developing his skills as an Aerial Acrobat and just this year founded "Louisville Aerial Revolution", one of the only adult acrobatic organizations in Louisville. Mistress Elisabeth De Sade is a 5-year veteran of the burlesque and S&M stage, performing with the Suicide Girls traveling show (locally) and with her own troupe, Girlie Girl Burlesque (Lexington) which features a plethora of other performers from that area. Ms. De Sade's stage persona is represented by a split personality; One being the sweet but cheeky strip teaser, and the other being a strict but sassy dominatrix. Split personalities are also reflected through differences in dress and general appearance.Performance venues include (but are not limited to): Buster's Bar (Boomslang Festival), Al's Bar, The Lantern, The Pussycat Lounge, Headliner's Music Hall, and the Southgate House. Ms. De Sade also spent a number of years as an alternative and life model. As mentioned previously, she was a Suicide Girl (but refuses to reveal her name) and has also done a number of shoots/sessions with private artists.

This Sunday, professional ballerina McKinley Nicoson will inspire your drawing practice with her fluid grace.

McKinley started dancing at the age of six and has danced on scholarship with American Ballet Theatre, Walnut Hill School, School of American Ballet (New York City Ballet), and Chautaqua Dance Theatre. She was the 2005 Fund For the Arts Whittenburg Scholarship for Excellence recipient. After a two year break from dancing to pursue other passions, Nicoson performed with the Louisville Ballet this past season.

Miss Liz E. Borden, a pin-up extraordinaire, is a native and current resident of Louisville, KY. Born May 3rd during the Derby season she secretly thinks the festivities are for her. Modeling is a new experience which she hopes to expand by working with new photographers and gaining new insights. To be famous or well known isn't as important as the journey down the path. Miss Liz E. Borden also owns and operates her own jewelry business "Just Charmed". All designs are her original work. She is an avid fan of classic rock such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Doors. As for dislikes she avoids spiders as if they were the plague. Beth is a bike FANATIC! She has her own pedicab business in which drunk people are biked around downtown Louisville to the wee hours of the morning. She also one of those nutso people who
think it's extremely fun to bicycle across the United States just for the heck of it. The outfit she is wearing in the picture is a stilt walking costume(another side job of hers) that she created out of bicycle parts
and bicycle tubes. She lives with her cat, who she snuck out of Mongolia...a very long, exciting story.

2010 Proof on Main Show

Work from numerous artist attendees from the past several months of Cabaret Life Drawing is now on display at Proof on Main, the bar section of 21c's restaurant. These are mounted informally, akin to salon style, displayed in four groupings on the walls around the Seventh Street side seating area and entrance from Main Street.

Matthew is a favorite life drawing model for many artists in the Louisville area. He has regularly modeled for life drawing classes at the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, I.U. Southeast, the Jewish Community Center, the Kentucky Watercolor Society and for many private artists and groups. He previously modeled extensively for the Louisville Visual Art Association at the now-defunct Artopia facility and at the water tower, and he has also appeared as a model at Jefferson Community College. Matthew studied theater at I.U. Southeast, and continues to perform on stage whenever possible. He most recently appeared as Dexter Jackson in "Two Beers and a Hook Shot" at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

This Sunday, Derek Rake, aka Scarlett St. Claire, will model and perform for your drawing pleasure.

Derek is a multi-media artist and performer. His artists repertoire includes costuming, set design, installation, performance, and video art. This Sunday's concept will reflect America's obsession with oil, and a political commentary on the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. Artists are encouraged to bring their cameras along with their pencils! Bring colored dry-media, such as pencil or pastel if you like...there will be a lot of red, white, blue...and black.

" The return of Quetzelcoatl to Mexico in pink.... Flying to Mexico incognito as Rebecca...customs had to check my bags...pink plastic blooming out as the case was unzipped(an unruly bird) Custom official...?????... Rebecca ...Big Bird's cousin...a costume... Custom official,smiles ...O.K. Dress by Zephra Mae Miller. She said"I have the gift" and crotcheted it from"This Little Piggy " ( a popular children's shoe store in my neighborhood) pink plastic bags and my blue shower curtain(blue for the delta of the river Goddess and the Great steam boat race and the ever present memory of The Nile).... None of those little piggies had swine flu. The dress was designed for Mary Lou Whitney's celebrated Derby Party and can be seen in archived episodes of "Life Styles of the Rich and Famous with Robin Leach" documenting the Derby Eve before Seth Hancock's horse "Sunday Silence" won the Kentucky Derby..."Come Sunday, oh, come Sunday, that's the day" Duke Ellington"

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing welcomes back Taletha, a professional belly dancer! Taletha will move to sounds from around the world, sharing her diverse dancing repertoire as she poses for your drawing pleasure!

Taletha began her professional belly dance career in 2004 and has quickly become one of Kentucky ’s most recognized and acclaimed Middle Eastern dance artists. She earns her living as a solo performer and instructor of belly dance (also known as Raks Sharqi or Oriental Dance) in Louisville , KY. In addition to Egyptian style belly dance, her repertoire also includes Central Asian dance, the folk dances of the Middle East, American Cabaret style belly dance, and Gothic belly dance. She is a member of the successful Middle Eastern folk and Central Asian dance ensemble, The Crescent Moon Dance Company, as well as co-founder of TL2 Productions, a partnership dedicated to bringing the joy of dance and music to Louisville , KY and Southern Indiana . More recently, Taletha has become founder and artistic director for Middle Eastern and Experimental dance ensemble, Asrar Al Badra, a group which serves to help provide a creative outlet and performance training for her students. She has also put her experience as a classically trained flautist to work as a member of Ahel El Nagam, a music group devoted to playing Middle Eastern music. Taletha’s abilities have earned her the opportunity to teach and perform not only in Louisville , but also in Lexington , Cincinnati , Indianapolis , Dayton , Columbus , Denver , Reno , and Seattle . Her performances have reached people from all walks of life. She has performed for major corporate functions, museums, cultural events, and even tattoo conventions. Kyle wowed us with his cowboy and boxer costumes, and this time Kyle will model several looks: a policeman (good cop/ bad cop??), an egyptian (king tut's handsome brother), and an army officer (yes, sir!), all for your drawing pleasure.

In addition to his bodybuilding, Kyle is a small business owner and personal trainer. He has won several competitions over the past years. He recently placed second in the Men’s Open Middle Weight Class in the NPC (National Physique Committee) in Northern KY. Kyle is a big movie buff and enjoys browsing on the internet, with facebook being his main addiction.

Most of Olivia's dance repertoire is with the Louisville belly dance troupe Asrar Al Badre, where she performs American Cabaret, Egyptian and Gothic style belly dance with the troupe and as a soloist. She was recently introduced to Burlesque dancing and was part of Va Va Voyeur A Burlesque Show, a recent performance at the Alley Theater in Louisville.

Now in her fifth season with the Louisville Ballet, she has been featured here in various classical and contemporary works like Four Last Songs, Lambarena, Agon, The Sleeping Beauty, Vespri and The Magic Flute. Jess, 26, was born and raised in Kentucky. She went to college for painting, but discovered it was not her cup of tea. Since then, she has been traveling via thumb and train, and visiting different cities and woods. She is excited about primitive skills, ie. traditional methods for living such as tanning hides by hand, making fires with friction, and living outdoors. She also loves cooking for herself and her friends. Jess currently lives in the west end of Louisville.

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing hosts the multi-talented and very flexible Holly Holland! Capture Holly's unique yoga-inspired poses in both quick and sustained sketches.

Louisville native Holly Holland took up yoga at age 45, following serious illness, and discovered the healing and rejuvenating powers of a regular yoga practice. A journalist, author, and editor, she eventually obtained national certification to teach yoga and now works with about 100 students a week at the University of Louisville, Bellarmine College, Yoga on Baxter, Core Studios, and Jewish Community Center. Her specialty is Rocket yoga, a dynamic, bull-body workout that adds in more core abdominal moves, inversions, hip openers, backbends, and twists than traditional yoga classes. Rocket yoga was developed by Larry Schultz, the founder of It’s Yoga San Francisco (www.itsyoga.net. (See www.yogabyholly.com for more details.)

Holly is an avid cyclist and Pilates enthusiast. She also is the founder and director of an all-volunteer organization that has raised about $130,000 in the past five years to put Sudanese refugees through college. She received the Pioneer Innovator in Education Award in 2009 from the Gheens Foundation and the WLKY-TV Bell Award in 2008 for Outstanding Community Service.

Matthew is a favorite life drawing model for many artists in the Louisville area. He has regularly modeled for life drawing classes at the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, I.U. Southeast, the Jewish Community Center, the Kentucky Watercolor Society and for many private artists and groups. He previously modeled extensively for the Louisville Visual Art Association at the now-defunct Artopia facility and at the water tower, and he has also appeared as a model at Jefferson Community College. Matthew studied theater at I.U. Southeast, and continues to perform on stage whenever possible. He most recently appeared as Dexter Jackson in "Two Beers and a Hook Shot" at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Louisville is defined in large part by its vital and thriving arts and cultural communities. Collectively, these organizations are one of the region’s largest employers, one of its most consistent producers of tourist revenue, and a significant factor in Louisville’s economic health. Anyone looking to lead Louisville into the next decade must demonstrate a vision for Metro Government’s role in supporting and preserving groups dedicated to arts and culture, and to their unique places in our heritage and our future. The purpose of the Mayoral Forum on Arts and Culture is to focus attention on this critical aspect of our city in all of its facets – social, economic and cultural – as well as its importance to the growth and diversity of the region.

Each candidate will be asked to respond to questions posted by the community on their plans to promote arts and culture in Louisville, in terms of funding, neighborhood development, real estate opportunities, and arts education for both student and teacher development. To date, all candidates have been invited.

Each candidate will be sent a series of questions one week prior to the event. Candidates will be allowed to make a two-minute opening remark. At that time the moderator will direct questions to the candidates. Each question will be answered by three of the candidates, with 90 seconds allowed for response. In the final 15 to 20 minutes of the forum, candidates will be given an opportunity to give a 90-second response to a question that was not directed to them earlier, or to give a 90-second closing comment. As time allows, audience questions will be accepted. The audience can submit written questions during the first 70 minutes to ushers in the audience.

The local arts and culture community acknowledges the efforts of the Kentucky School of Art in conceiving and opening the dialogue that resulted in this event. Louisville’s newest arts organization, the Kentucky School of Art promises to be a vital member of our community, expanding even further our growing arts heritage.

With the recent announcement of Apple's iPad expect to see more digital art created out in the real world as digital artists break free of the chains to their desktop computers. Over the past months there has been an explosion of digital art produced on portable devices such as the Nintendo DS, Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch as developers produce art and painting applications for these platforms. This type of art has gained legitimacy - even gracing the cover of national magazines (see photo of the New Yorker cover by Jorge Columbo produced on his iPhone using the painting app "Brushes"). Elijah is also a practical instructor in the World Instructor Training School (WITS) program for Bellarmine University, a Professional Fitness Consultant for local and national fitness businesses, and a lecturer / advisor for Medical Fitness Therapy Programs to Primary Care physician groups and Senior Living agencies.

Elijah is an inspiration for teaching and guiding clients into the importance of taking ample care of their bodies and minds, correlating the two as one. He believes physical fitness is not an option, but a great responsibility that grants us pass from sufferings such as cancer, cholesterol, depression, anxiety, allergies, diabetes, fatigue, heart disease, osteoporosis and many other vexing complications, diseases and ailments.

Ms Cow Pattie has been in the art of Drag for approximately 8 years now. She is just a simple country gal that likes to have a good time w/ friends and family. She enjoys dinner over candle light, rainbows and long walks on the beach. She resides in Louisville, KY and has a summer double wide trailer in Boca Raton, FL.

Ms Pattie has three lovely daughters, Sausage Pattie, Tragic Pattie and Table Scraps Pattie and they all take great pleasure in being seen on many red carpets in the Louisville area.

Ms Pattie is the current reigning Ms Blue Grass Classic 2009. She is the former Ms KPF 2006 and is the honorary Ms Forever Pride. Ms Pattie also sits on the Kentuckiana Pride Foundation committee.

Her dreams for the future are to continue her charity work and give back to the community as much as it has given her.

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing hosts Dan Dutton, a visual and performing artist who lives in Somerset, Kentucky!

The first shows of Dan's visual artwork in Louisville were at the Speed Art Museum in the mid-80s. In 1989 he began work on the first opera, entitled “The Stone Man,” and presented it a workshop performance at the Speed, assisted by Kentucky Opera and the National Endowment for the Arts “Opera for the 80s and Beyond” program. The Kentucky Opera subsequently commissioned a score and staging of “The Stone Man,” which premiered at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in January of 1990, and went on to tour the state. The Stone Man was the first opera by a Kentucky composer to receive full staging.

In 2003, 21C Museum commissioned “Ballads of the Barefoot Mind,” an installation and performance centered on the imagery of traditional ballads. The performance of 12 ballads was performed with some of Kentuckyʼs best traditional musicians. Danʼs current performance opera, “Youʼll Always Come Back” is scheduled to premiere in Louisville in the summer of 2010.

Grace has performed across the country under the name Cindy Crawfish with her partner, Tina Tuna. Starting on top of their favorite bar, they entertained between bands at punk shows and eventually landed at a cabaret with other aerial acrobats and burlesque ladies and gentlemen. Cindy Crawfish and Tina Tuna passed though a myriad of venues, such as The Blastomat, Monkey Mania, The Bar Bar, Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret and we brought in the New Year for an ecstatic crowd at The Mercury Cafe. The duo performed once in Louisville at the Rudyard Kipling before Tina Tuna sadly moved away. Grace will perform solo this Sunday for your drawing pleasure!

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing is hosting Chris Saunders, local emerging film and commercial actor!

Saunders is not your average 25 year old. Saunders stands only 4'4 but has the heart of a lion and the ambition of the greatest. All his life he has wanted to become a successful actor. In 2007 Saunders was cast for the lead role for a local short film contest, "The 48 Hour Film Festival". The requirements for the short film were to shoot a movie from beginning to end in 48 hours. The movie, titled "Phenomenal Me”, won the whole contest, Audience Award, Over-All Best Production, and Saunders won Best Actor. Since then, Saunders has been on a role, having been in many short films and commercials. You can view some links to his work below. In addition to his acting endeavors, Saunders is the proud father of two little girls, Saniya and Arielle.

This Sunday Cabaret Life Drawing will be hosted by Churchill Davenport. Churchill has degrees from Yale University, Indiana University, and the Maryland Institute, College of Art in painting, theology, and psychology. He has over 30 years of college-level fine art teaching and administrative experience at schools including Yale, Pratt, and the Maryland Institute, College of Art. He served as the director of the Senior Thesis Program at MICA for the past 5 years. He is the recipient of many honors and fellowships, has shown is work throughout the country, and has work in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Currently, Davenport is the Director of the Kentucky School of Art.

She spends most of her time volunteering at the Culbertson Mansion in downtown New Albany, but has many hobbies and interests including cooking, music, writing, and all kinds of crafts including sewing and sculpture. As a child Lena always had interest in costumes and dressing up, but really developed a passion for it when she began creating her own costumes for the plays and historical reenactments put on by Culbertson Mansion.

News:

Submissions for Proof on Main Art Show: 21c's restaurant, Proof on Main, will host a show of our work from the Cabaret Life Drawing sessions. The art should have either come from the sessions ~~or be derived from those works~~ (revised 1/24/10). Please either bring or email your submissions to be included in this event. All submissions will be considered (unless requested otherwise). And all entries will be included as part of a "virtual show" hosted here on the blog. Email Skylar for more information. Model:

This week's model was Olivia and she brought a friend. She brought Ayame, her five-foot cow snake, to pose with her! Olivia has a background in belly dance and has been working with a local burlesque group. Here is a photo of Olivia from Skylar's email announcing the session.
